acceptance

A week or so ago, I mentioned my "secret garden" in passing to a friend, and when he asked about it, we both thought it would be easier to simply link him to the blog post I made. Either the address of my blog, or the name, led him to ask me if I was a witch. When I said yes... He said the oddest thing. He said good. Good that I was a witch!

And and a few days ago, I was at the doctor, and he saw my tattoo. And suddenly he started gushing about how beautiful it was (and at that point, I noticed how dry and ashy my legs were and was mortified that I forgot to put lotion on) and asked if it had any meaning. So, I told him it was a pentacle and he pipes up, "Like in Wicca, right?" And I hesitated... Because I'm not a Wiccan, but he took it as me being worried about the usual persecution we non-book religions suffer and said "Oh, it's cool! I've studied Wicca a bit and it's a really neat religion. ... You classify it as a religion, right?" LOL So I said that I was Pagan, and yes, it is a religion. I'm assuming he thought it might be classified as a spirituality?

Anyway, don't mind me. I'm just basking in the warm glow of acceptance. I hope that, someday, it is something we all can experience. Actually, no. I hope that someday this is the normal way of things, and there will be no warm glow because it will just be how things are.

My own sense of style

Today, as I walked to history class with two friends, the subject of shoes came up. One friend owns, not kidding, at least 4 pairs of TOMS shoes. And while I like the idea of TOMS (for every pair of shoes you buy, TOMS donates a pair to 3rd world country village. Everyone needs shoes), I think they're ridiculously ugly. Sorry. Of course, this is coming from a person who wore moccasin slippers during most of high school, so maybe I'm not the judge of shoe-style. However, as I was saying that I don't like the shoes, my other friend piped up that I have my own sense of style and those shoes just don't lend themselves to it. I was really pleasantly surprised and pleased by her comment. Actually, now that I think about it, she comments on my clothes quite often. And while I don't dress for other people, it still makes me happy that there is at least one person who appreciates my (usually) thrift store clothes not as simply second-hand, but as awesome finds.

I also learned today that another friend's mom is Pagan. How neat is that? She saw my tattoo, said it was cool, and that her mom had a star like it. Now, this girl is very naive, so I thought maybe her mom had a star tattoo, and not a pentacle at all, so I ask if it's exactly like it. She goes, "Yeah, well, there are moons around it." So I think, no way, and ask if they're crescent moons as I draw in the air the maiden/crone crescents. My friend nods and says yes, so I decided to take the chance and ask if her mom was pagan. ... I wonder if my friend is?

Sorry, really random post. I just thought both of these events of the day were great counterpoint to the rest of the day, and they both made me smile.

Ink'd

Last December I turned 21. Now, I don't drink, so I had no illusions of going out and getting falling-down-drunk. So, I bought myself something that will last much longer than fuzzy memories of drinking: a tattoo! Also, it didn't hurt that I made quite a bit of money from selling text books back at the end of that semester!!!

I really wanted to add to it this year, but unfortunately I ran low on funds. :( I want to get a dragon of similar style either perched on top of the pentacle or hanging around on the swirly-gigs. Or maybe get crescent moons on either side of it to form the triple moon symbol... So many options!!

I did quite a bit of searching for just the right tattoo. In the end, I found two pictures of pentacles that I liked, brought it into the tattoo artist and he combined them together into a tattoo that I love.

And, wow, this post went nowhere! Haha! I was looking at pictures of other people's tattoos and decided I wanted to show off mine.
