Happy New Year!!

Health and happiness to my readers (and everyone else, of course!) this new year. My year started off with snuggles from Camden, playing with tinkertoy robots, and cinnamon rolls! It's started out well, now I just have to keep the ball rolling so it gets better. lol

I'm not one for resolutions. So instead of making the obligatory statements of lose weight, be nice, etc, I'm going to tell the planned benchmarks of this year, which will happen one way or the other.

This year is my Senior Recital. The date is set for mid April. I'll be doing a joint-recital with my friend, who plays tuba. Yep. A tuba/percussion recital. How fun is that?! The good news: I have all of my music picked out and know three pieces. I still have two pieces to learn: one multi-percussion piece and one duet with a friend (percussionist) which will have an afro-cuban feel to it.

I will also be taking the GRE this spring. Not really looking forward to it, but I don't have much choice. Hopefully I will only have to take it once.

I also graduate this year. In December, I'll be getting my BA. I was due to graduate in May, but a change of majors (kinda) in the last year threw my plan out of whack and trying to cram EVERYTHING into the last two semesters was a terrible idea, as I learned this last semester. So I'm taking my time, and spreading things out a little bit between this spring and next fall semesters.

So those are my definite plans for the year. As well as observing the wheel turning again, watching the seasons come and watching the seasons go. Seeing my son grow into himself, hearing his speech grow clearer everyday and rejoicing in his knowledge of emotions and abstract ideas. Learning and growing, myself.

I found this quote in Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson, and it really spoke to me. Life before death. Strength before weakness. Journey before destination. This will be my quote for the year. It will remind me to enjoy the journey and worry less about where I'm trying to go.

Many blessings to you and yours, friends!

New year's follow-up

It's been a month and a half since New Year's. Most people have probably forgotten their resolutions by this point. Honestly, I think I had also! I'm glad I have the post where I wrote them out to remind me!

The first, being more patient with Camden, sometimes happens and sometimes it doesn't. This is probably one of the few things I feel guilty about in my life, that there are times that I just cannot be calm in the face of his carrying on about one thing or another. I realise this is something that takes more than six weeks to overcome, and also that it's more than my frustration with him. It's my frustration with him on top of my other stresses and frustrations of life, and he just happens to be the one there to hear about it. :( Mayhaps I should start exercising... Let that frustration bleed out in my sweat.

The second, "being a better Pagan," is also one that sometimes happens and sometimes does not. I again feel that connection with the earth, and the cycles it undergoes, that connection with the Goddess and God, perhaps more than I ever have. I did not miss Imbolc, which was a normal occurrence for the past several years, so I am counting that as a positive fulfillment of my resolution! Also, I don't feel as though I take Paganism quite so lightly as I once did, though this is probably most likely due to my adventures last year. (I wonder, if I had started Witch at Church sooner than I did, like in April or May, if I would have abandoned Christianity that much sooner? Or perhaps I would have stuck with it. Who knows?) I don't think I ever took it lightly, but I think that I am now much more solidly rooted in this faith and belief system.

My blog, I think, is definitely a success story, although most of the time I am saying to myself, what am I going to write?! One Witch's Story is my outlet and is also part of the success of my "better Pagan" goal, because I have to be living as a pagan to be able to write about it!

I'd like to take a moment to thank my followers (and regular readers who aren't followers). I cannot express with words the gratitude I feel every time I see a new name on my list. Thank you for taking time out of your day to read my words and to (sometimes) respond.

New Beginnings for a New Year

My first post of twenty-ten. How exciting!

The New Year is a time of new beginnings and deciding what we're going to change about our lives in the coming year. I haven't made a New Year's resolution in several years. And the years I did, I doubt very much that I held to the resolutions I made. This year I am breaking my tradition of not making resolutions. This year I am resolving to be more patient with Camden. I am also going to devote more time reaffirming my Pagan faith. I've always been something like the person who considers their self a Christian but never goes to church. I've read about and studied Paganism since the beginning, and held a few rituals for myself. But what started out as not practicing in order to shelter my beliefs from my parents developed into habit. And the last few years, though I've been out of my parents' house, I've been busy raising Camden and going to school. But now Camden is at the age where he is beginning to understand the unseen a little bit more (or at least can appreciate the stories and songs!) So I want to make time in my life for worship, via ritual on holidays and full moons and at other times. I want to follow a more "religious" Pagan path than I have in the past, and this year is the beginning of that.

Another new beginning for this year: this blog. Since I'm no longer a "witch at church" I really need to come up with a new name for my blog. I'm just not entirely sure where I want the blog to go, now.

Many happy wishes for you and yours for twenty-ten!
